Collection from the hotel to the Palma Promenade.  At the port we will board the boat Delphine and set out for a 5 hour cruise along the coast towards the south of Palma de Mallorca Bay.  Along the way we will pass by Palma Nova, Magalouf, Santa Ponessa, and the turquoise bays of El Mago.  It is possible to swim in the beautiful bays, an enjoy a plate of paella, either vegetarian or with seafood, accompanied by drinks, rhythmic music and a happy atmosphere.

We will travel towards the western range, Sierra de Terramontana, to the ancient and picturesque little town of Valldemossa, which has attracted famous artists and composers who in turn brought fame to the town where they found inspiration.  The best known of these is the composer Chopin, who followed his beloved George Sand to the village.  We will walk round the special little streets and enjoy the picturesque houses and the unique atmosphere.  There will be some free time to taste the local drink, the Oretseta.

We will continue traveling to the artists’ villageDalla , passing the heel-shaped Se Pordede rock that slopes down to the sea.  We will end with a visit to the famous natural harbor Port de Soller, where we will have a lunch break and some free time to enjoy this pretty place.  Finally we will make our way back to the hotels.

We travel west to Manacor, which is the center of the famous Majorica man-made pearl industry.  We will visit a factory and be given a demonstration and an explanation of the pearl manufacturing process, followed by a visit to the showroom.  There will be time to purchase pearl items before we continue our journey to the Drach Caves.  We will have a tour of the special cave which is 2.6 km long and 60m wide.  As we walk round the cave we will see colorful stalactites and stalagmites, an underground lake, accompanied by classical music and surprises.  After the visit we will make our way to Porto Cristo beach for a lunch break and free time to enjoy this picturesque village.  Finally we will return to the hotels.

We will start the visit at the promenade along the sea, with a view of the largest yacht marina in the Mediterranean.  We will climb up to the amazing lookout over the Palma de Mallorca Bay from the Beliver Castle, a fortress built to defend the island against invaders.  The tour continues on foot through the quarter of the Jews - the “Xuetes”, the Cathedral of La Seu and the Almodena Palace.  There will be some free time for shopping in the heart of the Del Burana commercial district.

Toledo, known as “Jerusalem of Spain”, is one of the world’s most impressive cities.  We will travel south from Madrid to Toledo, an important landmark in the history of the Jewish people in the Spanish diaspora.  We will begin with an amazing view of the city, which was the historic meeting place of the 3 monotheist religions, Judaism, Christianity and Islam.  Toledo is built on a hill and surrounded by the Tagus River which flows all year round and acted as a natural barrier.  From the viewpoint we can see the Alcazar, the oldest cathedral in Spain, and the Jewish quarter.

We will start the guided tour in Zocodover Square and walk through the narrow streets pas the oldest Gothic Cathedral in Spain, the residence of the Archbishop.  We will view the Bell Tower, and continue from the old wall to the Jewish quarter, La Juderia, passing the residence of the Abulafia family.  We will pay an emotional visit to the El Transito Synagogue, named after Rabbi Shmuel Halevy and currently used as a museum of Spain’s Jewish heritage.   

We will continue to the famous San Martin Bridge, and then leave the old city for a visit to the workshops producing damascene work, in which gold thread is inlaid into different metals to make various objects, including swords and weapons.

At the end of the visit we will return to the hotels in Madrid.

We travel west across the Sierra de Guadarrama to the old city of Segovia, for a tour of the ancient Roman aqueduct which has become the symbol of the city.  We will visit the Alcazar (Castle) of Segovia, which was the model for the fairy tale castles of Walt Disney.  It was the residence of Queen Isabella the Catholic, the instigator of the Jewish expulsion from Spain.  We will visit the home of Avraham Shneour, Isabella’s finance minister and confidant, and hear fascinating stories.  We will also tour the ancient Cathedral of the city, then make our way to the gardens of the Royal Palace of La Granja (a copy of the gardens at Versailles), where we will have a guided tour before returning to Madrid.

As night falls and stars appear in the sky, we will set  out for a special tour of Madrid’s lively night scene.  The residents of Madrid have adopted the motto “Let’s live and have fun”, and so we find them in the restaurants, pubs and bars until the small hours of the night.

We will start at the well-known Plaza Santa Ana in La Latina quarter and visit some of the most popular pubs in the area, tasting some of their drinks and mixing with the local crowd as our guide tells us about Madrid’s night life.

We will continue to the Chueca quarter, known for its lively pub culture, and as we tour the area, we will learn more about how the city of Madrid likes to party.

El Rastro Flea Market and the Royal Palace in Madrid

The trip includes travel to La Latina Quarter and El Rastro, Europe’s largest flea market which covers most of La Latina.  There will be some free time for shopping and to enjoy the experience of this unique market.  From there we will make our way to the Royal Palace, the largest and possibly the most beautiful and authentic Royal Palace in Europe.  It served as the official residence and offices of King Philip V and was built of limestone and marble 250 years ago in an impressive neo-classical style with 2000 rooms, of which 50 are open to the public.  We will have a guided tour of the Palace with its displays of beautiful objects which remain as silent witnesses of a fascinating period in Spanish history and the various royal dynasties.

We travel eastwards through Sierra de Guadarrama to visit the Valle de los Caidos (“Valley of the Fallen”), a site located between pine trees that commemorates the victims of the bloody 1936-1939 Civil War, in which a million citizens lost their lives.  We will tour this impressive monument and the basilica hewn out of the rock to a depth of 330m, containing the tomb of the Fascist dictator, Generalissimo Franco.  We will continue to a view of El Escorial, the vast museum in a palace built by Philip II who drained the Spanish treasury.   Today the Palace serves as a memorial to the Golden Age of Spain following the discovery of the American continent by Christopher Columbus, which made Spain into Europe’s most powerful state from the 15th to the 17th centuries.

Comprehensive Tour of Madrid

We start in Plaza de Espana with its famous status of Don Quixote.  The bus takes us to Columbus Square where we visit the site marking the voyages of Christopher Columbus.  We will visit the Retiro Park and also go from the Plaza de Cibeles, the Roman goddess of the earth, to the Prado Boulevard and the famous Atocha metro station.  From there we travel via Neptune Square along the Grande Via, the main thoroughfare of Madrid.

We arrive at Placa del Sol, the central square of the town.  After a short break we start our walking tour of Old Madrid, through narrow streets to Placa Mayor, the important square that was built some 500 years ago and was once the site of bullfights and the Auto Da Fe ceremonies where families of Anussim Jews were burned at the stake under the orders of the Inquisition.  We leave the Square through the Knives Gate and have a look the world’s oldest restaurant, Casa Botin.

On our way we pass by the Crucifix Gate and reach the largest tapas market in the world, San Miguel, with a lunch break to taste some of their special tapas.  We end the tour at the luxurious Royal Palace, where those who are interested can take a guided tour, with fascinating stories about the wonderful objects on display in the Palace rooms. The cost for the Roayal Palace are not included.
