Die Bayern, Der FCB
Colours of Bavaria in its centre and FC Bayern München is written in white on a red ring enclosing the Bavarian colours.

Bayern Munich is the most successful club in German football, with 25 championship titles and 17 national cups achieved in their 117 year history. Bayern Munich is also the biggest sports club in Germany and the third biggest football club in the world. The Allianz arena has a capacity of 75,000. Previously, Bayern Munich had its period of greatest success in the 1970’s under the stewardship of Franz Beckenbauer, winning the European Cup three years in a row ‘74-’76. Bayern have appeared in ten European Cup/UEFA Champions League finals, making it one of the most successful European clubs, internationally. Recently, Bayern have won 7 of the last 11 league titles and are looking likely to make that 8 out of 12 with them currently sitting top of the league once again.

Some noteable past Bayern Munich players (legends):

Franz Beckenbauer, Gerd Muller, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Lothar Matthaus, Stefan Effenberg, Oliver Kahn, Mehmet Scholl, Bixente Lizarazu

Franz John and 16 other people founded the F.C. Bayern. Originally, their colors were blue and white. After expanding, they moved to a new pitch owned by another team under the condition that they adapt the colors of their club - the now iconic red and white. Afterwards, the team became a top club in the still young sport of football but nationally, they couldn't beat the other top clubs of their time, mostly coming from Bavaria too. In 1932, Bayern Munich won against Eintracht Frankfurt and won their first national title in the club's history.

After World War II, football in Germany came to a halt - it would take many years until the first league season came to be. Hit by the Nazi regime because many Jewish descendants played or were employed in the club, Bayern Munich got weakened severely. When the Bundesliga was found, they weren't in the first season. It should take them two years until they got promoted to the Bundesliga in 1965. With a squad consisting of Sepp Maier, Franz Beckenbauer and Gerd Müller, Bayern Munich achieved their first cup title in their first Bundesliga season, a year after the equivalent to the UEFA Cup and achieved the league title in their 4th Bundesliga season in 1969. Soon they become a strong team, however, Borussia Mönchengladbach was the dominating team of the 70s; nevertheless, they could win the league titles from 1972 to 1974 and the UEFA Winners Cup from 1974 to 1976.

The biggest successes are hard to define as Bayern Munich has won nearly everything in abundance - after dozens of league titles, cup titles and some Champions League titles, what's left to say about biggest successes? The biggest successes may be winning the league, cup and Champions League title in 2013. Also the triple of 2001 after a heartbeat win against Manchester United which led during overtime yet lost to Bayern Munich.

Under Pep Guardiola's three years, Bayern Munich won the Bundesliga every season and two times the DFB Cup. Constantly ranking in the top 3 and often winning the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich is without a doubt the best German team and a force to reckon with in Europe. Probably even moreso when former Real Madrid coach and Champions League winner Carlo Ancelotti gives his debut with the aim of winning the Champions League title since 2013.

In Bayern, nearly every player could be considered a star. But even then, some players are exceptional: of course, World Cup winner goalie Manuel Neuer, considered to be the best goalkeeper in the world. Mats Hummels, coming fresh from Dortmund, will also be under close observation of many fans. And then we have the usual suspects, Franck Ribéry and Arjen Robben, who make up the heart of the Bayern middle field. In the offense, Robert Lewandowski is with his 30 goals last season the top star in the squad. We have to see whether he can hold up this feat in the next season, too.

The Allianz Arena is in the truest sense of the word an illuminating stadium - the enlightened facade of at night is a sight to behold. However, the best experience with the Allianz Arena is getting a ticket for a match of the German record champion and one of the best football clubs in Europe, Bayern Munich. With constant strives for the league title, beautiful football and constant international matches, many international football fans have found their way to Munich at least once in their life. With the Champions League and the beginning of the Bundesliga around the corner, it is a must-see, a show for how great German football is.
