Borussia Dortmund is one of Germany’s most successful clubs, having won 8 Bundesliga Championships, 3 DFB – Pokals, 4 DFL – Supercups, 1 UEFA Champions League, 1 UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup and 1 Intercontinental Cup. In 1974 Borussia Dortmund relocated to Westfalenstadion, the largest stadium in Germany accommodating 80,720 supporters. The club came to be by (ex-)members of the Holy Trinity Church. 40 members of the church youth met 1900 at a restaurant to found the BVB. Ttheir youth leader and the church opposed the foundation, even by shutting them out of church. 18 members stepped out of the church and started founding the BVB.
As proof of their early fanbase, the members of the club gathered 50,000 Reichsmark and refurbished their old playground to a stadium with a capacity for 18,000 spectators. They also renamed the playground to "Borrusia-Sportpark".
In 1947, Dortmund got the title of their home state against Schalke, who's been the favorite with ten titles until then, a truly spectacular title. In 1956, Borussia Dortmund achieved their first national league title. They were able to defend it one year later. Then in 1966, their first international title against Liverpool with 2-1. In 1995, Dortmund could achieve their fourth title in the Bundesliga; as earlier, they defended their title next season too. This title paved the way for the spectacular Champions League title against Juventus Turin.
Due to the ongoing stadium expansion and not-so-well results, Borussia Dortmund was near bankruptcy in the 2000s. The cuts in team and other staff let mediocre results continue but the club was rescued. With Jürgen Klopp as trainer, the BVB was able to achieve two Bundesliga titles, shaping what Borussia Dortmund is known as today.
In recent history, the league titles 2011 and 2012 have made an impression in the football world any team rarely has done.
