The Allianz Arena replaced Munich's old Olympiastadion. The first plans for the new stadium were made in 1997, even though the city of Munich preferred reconstructing the Olympiastadion. It took a while until the stadium was finally being constructed. The construction work started in October 2002, with a total investment of €340 million, and were finished in 2005. The first mach of Bayern Munich in the new stadium was against the German national team (4:2). During the years the Allianz Arena was expanted with 2,000 seats and then by additional 4,000 seats and has now a capacity of 75,000 seats, but it has turned out that it's still too small for Bayern Munich. The Stadium is nearly sold out of tickets at every home league match of the Bayern.
