Camp Nou was built between 1954 and 1957 and it replaced Barcelona's previous Camp de les Corts, which could hold 60,000 people. The fast growing supporters of the club led to the build of the new stadium. It has a capacity of 99,354 seats and had even 120,000 seats during the world cup in 1982. Until the early 1990s till the late 1990s some standing areas have been converted to seating areas which inceased the capacity just below 100,000. Barcelona was thinking to either build a new stadium or redevelop the current one. They finally decided to redevelop it with a steeper first teer for better views, a new roof which will cover all seats, and improvements to the interior of the stadium. The constuctions are planned to start in 2017 and finish in 2021. The capacity will then be slightly higher with 105,000 seats.
