Stadio San Siro opened on 19th of September 1926 with a match between Milan and Inter (3:6). The stadium had a capacity of 35,000 spectators at this time. In 1955 San Siro got futher expanded with a second tier above the first one. It led to a capacity of about 85,000 places and for the World Cup in 1980 the stadium got futher renovated with a third tier, a roof which covered all seats and 4 towers to support the roof and the extra tier. The stadium now has capacity of 80,018 because of the UEFA safety requiremnts. Both, Inter and Milan have announced to build a new stadium instead of to renovate San Siro, but the plans are still unclear.
